Moving up (Downstairs) to Young Adult Party: For Rising Freshmen!

Rising freshmen welcome to YA! After graduating from 8th grade you are now officially eligible to use the space and attend programs. We are happy to introduce you to the room and all the programs and activities we have available. Please join us for the Moving Up (Downstairs) to Young Adult Party! Decorate a delicious cupcake and play games with other YA’s!

YA Summer Events

The East Hampton Library is offering the following programs for high school students in July and August
Please note: Space is limited – advance registration is required.  Library programs are open to all, but priority is given to East Hampton Library district residents: East Hampton, Springs, and Wainscott. All others will be put on a waiting list and may attend if space is available.

Young Adult Summer Reading Program – Stop by the Young Adult room and sign up to be eligible for prizes and raffles based on books you read and library programs you attend this summer! Sign up with a YA librarian & receive a welcome packet!
Rainy Days in YA –  Check out our video game and movie apps, board games, contests, and DIY corner…There’s always something to do in Young Adult, and we’re open 7 days a week!
Sunday Afternoon Chess – Sundays from 2:00-4:00 in the Bendheim Room. Meet up and play! Non-instructional. No registration required.
Community Service Opportunity – Teen Advisory Board – TAB meetings are held monthly to brainstorm, organize, and publicize Young Adult programs, services, and materials. Meets the first Sunday of every month, 3:30-4:30pm in the YA Meeting Room. Community service hours are granted.

Community Service Opportunity  – Paint Bookends for the YA Room  – Monday, July 24, 5-6pm in the Baldwin Room – Design and paint a bookend for the YA room based on your favorite YA book or library/teen inspired theme. College Application Essay – Two-Part Workshop – for Rising Seniors –  Monday, 7/31 and Saturday, 8/5 in the Baldwin Room

This is a two-part workshop.
Part One: Monday, July 31st at 5pm –  Group Session – Students will be presented with the information they need to get started on their essays, including tips for choosing topics and how to write a strong essay.                                                                                                                                                         Part Two: Saturday, August 5th at 10am – One-on-One Sessions –   Students return with their essay drafts to get individual help and feedback during brief writing conferences with volunteer tutors.

As part of the celebration of the opening of our brand new Young Adult room, we are looking for photographs taken by local high school students. The selected photographs will be the first to be displayed in the rotating art gallery located in the space. The deadline for submissions is November 7.

What is it?

Battle of the Books is an annual county-wide competition where teams of teens compete in a contest of trivia questions from three selected novels.

How does it work?

Read the books. Remember details.

Come to weekly practice sessions.

The competition takes place on March 24

at the Connetquot High School.
